Pillars are required for connecting walls but can also be placed individually. Light sources such as torches can be attached to pillars.

Palisade Pillars along with Castle Pillars are a foundational structure for both Doorways, Walls, and Torches. These structures cannot be built without them. As such, pillar placement is limited to tile corners.
